The James V. Lester
“There Is Hope" Scholarship
Honoring a legacy of service, courage, and hope
About the scholarship
The James V. Lester “There Is Hope” Scholarship honors the life and legacy of James V. Lester: a devoted father, United States Army veteran, and man of unwavering perseverance. James served two tours in Vietnam and reached the rank of E-7, and throughout his life he modeled dedication, integrity, and faith.
It encourages young people who share those same qualities of character, perseverance, leadership, and hope. The scholarship also reflects the message of the book There Is Hope: Life Lessons From a Tree by Aneisha LeMonier. Just as a tree endures storms while it keeps growing, students grow through life’s seasons of struggle and renewal. Each year it recognizes graduating seniors who show determination, compassion, service, and the ability to find hope in difficult times.
Scholarship purpose
The scholarship supports students who:
- Demonstrate perseverance through challenges
- Exhibit strong character and integrity
- Show compassion and service toward others
- Display leadership in their school, family, or community
